Lumiel is an AI-supported emotional companion for people who need support but aren't ready, or don't believe they need, to take the step into professional therapy.

The project started from a clear gap: many people distrust self-help apps, but don't see their situation as serious enough to need professional help. Research showed the real problem wasn't a lack of tools, but a lack of trust and relevance. Existing solutions felt too generic, too clinical, or built around mechanics that turned self-care into an obligation.

The insight that defined the experience: people needed to feel accompanied, not monitored. From there, the product was designed to remove pressure: optional features, no punitive mechanics, and an AI oriented toward empathetic companionship rather than replacing professional support.

The visual language came out of a single screen: the home dashboard, designed at high fidelity first and turned into the design system before the rest was resolved. Purple was deliberate: it sits outside the blue of clinical health and the green of generic wellness, and carries introspection and calm presence without feeling cold or institutional.

I developed the project end to end, from research and experience definition to visual design, the design system, prototyping, and usability testing. A first testing round with five participants reached an 84% overall success rate and surfaced two friction points: an element users expected in a different place, and a history view that wasn't intuitive on first use. Both were resolved in the following iteration, without structural changes.

The principle guiding Lumiel is simple: in an emotional support experience, what matters isn't only what someone can do, but how they feel while doing it.
